I am studying in Guayaquil, Ecuador, at 2° 10' S (hence the blog name). It's the biggest city in Ecuador, so this is sure to be a fast-paced, high-energy experience - just what I like! I'm hoping to advance my Spanish and explore a whole new part of the world.

A Big Step
Longest. Day. Ever. Not really, but it sure felt like it. Woke up at 5 to catch the train at dawn to go figure out my visa. After a harrowing ordeal involving additional requirements, miscommunications, and out-of-office messages, as well as an entire day spent downtown for something the size of a postage stamp, I finally got what I needed. With this last major step in the legal process, the trip is finally starting to feel imminent! I guess the issue of packing is next on my plate... oh boy. One week left; I have no idea what to expect, but I'm starting to believe it could be pretty fun! :)

Three weeks and counting...
Well, I've entered the mad dash to the finish at which point I will be able to say I'm ready to leave. I have approximately 80,000 things to accomplish before that point, and now 20 days to do it... However, I am remaining optimistic! For those of you who haven't heard yet, I leave for Guayaquil, Ecuador, on September 7. I will be studying there for fall semester, returning at the end of the year. I wanted to get this blog up and running so that it's not another thing I have to pay attention to when I get there; I'll also probably have a lot to say about those first few days!
We take Christopher to college at the crack of dawn tomorrow, so ready or not, the times they are a-changin'! This will be a season of new beginnings and evolving wings. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement, and please stay in touch!
